With exceptional natural values, it is the municipality of greatest altitude in Tenerife and in Spain. The dwellers enjoy the abundant waters of exquisite quality that cascade down from the summits. There are several streams that spring from the neighbouring high sierras, these waters unfortunately cannot be well taken advantage of due to the sharp sloping of the lands. Medicinal waters (unanalysed) can also be found. All in all, its cool climate is quite healthy.
The main economic activity is agriculture, with outstanding important potato production followed by the grape production. An aspect worth noting is the surface area occupied by the almond trees. Good wines are harvested here, which is characteristic of this high area, the white wines being the best.
The industrial activity, although incipient, is important and centred mainly in the bottling of mineral water.
